  • Thanks for the help with the Wedding Uncle Sam!

" The check helped us out on wedding expenses! We had just gotten marrid in March and when we got our check we promptly applied it to a credit card we opened for wedding costs like the cake and the ceremony fees... Thanks for the delicious wedding cake and a memorable ceremony Uncle Sam! :D "

  • Credit cards and heat

"We spent half on paying down my credit cards which has been used to pay tuition for college courses. The other half we used to put towards a new pellet furnace since our present gas furnace is costing us thousands per year in fuel (as you can see behind me , we have no insulation - ha ha!). Seriously, we live in Maine, so heat is a necessity. "

  • Still waiting...

"What I wanted was a new lap top computer and my lovely wife wanted a new sofa. Unfortunatly with gas around 4.45 a gallon, credit card debt into the next solar system and the closet city twenty miles or so down the coast, plus the fact we still have not received our check all I can do now is just walk down to the beach."

  • Robbing Peter to Pay Paul

"We paid off some credit cards to have money to make car payments on two new-to-us gas-inefficient vehicles, thus perpetuating the debt cycle. I was very happy with the credit card pay-off, not so much with gaining car payments. But it beats getting stuck in the snow countless times this past winter and incurring major body-work to my former car. (Oh, and a little bit paid for the load of gravel to create a parking area so our cars don't end up in snowbanks for much of the winter.)"

  • 529 plan - College Savings

"My husband and I put the $300 designated for each of our two dependents in thier 529 plan. My half of 'our' money ($600) went to pay down credit card/home equity debt from a basement remodel project and to buy groceries and such basic stuff as new jeans, tennis shoes, socks and underwear."

  • Hello stimulus check! Goodbye stimulus check...

"I spent my stimulus learning a life lesson. I bought this king-sized bed (on credit) so that my boyfriend and I would have plenty of room to sleep. Of course, as often happens in relationships, a few months later we broke up. (Perhaps it was the curse of buying the big bed? Kinda like getting their named tattooed on you?)And now I am stuck with this great big bed for a little me, and a great big bill from Visa for my tiny budget. I've learned not to buy things I can't afford - especially when in the future, I probably won't even need them! "

  • Thanks W&Co!

"For Illustrative Purposes I pulled out some cash to display here. If it were not for this website we probably never would have taken any real notice of our "stimulus" payment... it went directly toward our outstanding credit card balances. I am never one to look a Gift Horse in the mouth (even one addled with questionable intent) So I mean it when I say - Thanks W&Co!"

  • Disappointed Single Mom

"Wish I had good news like everyone else..but unfortunately I didn't get my stimulus check..the govt. kept it..put it towards a student loan I borrowed back in 1990 for $2,500.00 that has gotten way out of control since my divorce in 1998. I can't even tell you how much interest I've paid on this thing..I do know this..I'm working and raising my kids and the ex owes me over 15k in back child support..which the govt. says they are unable to do anything about..cant find him! yet they can sure find me and take my income tax returns and my $1200. stimulus check and yet still tell me I owe $2100.00 on it! wow...what a great system."

"I used 95% cent of it to pay debt for last summer's 8400 mile family trip. We did invite my parents out to eat and to see the new Indy Jones movie. I should have used that money for debt too in retrospect."

"I didn't buy anything. My check was deposited the day before my employer said due to the lack of business to his park, he couldn't pay me for the 2 week pay period. So basically it covered the paycheck I didn't get. Which goes towards bills."

  • Yay no 19% interest anymore!

"We paid off the cash advance portion of my credit card bill, which we had used for closing costs on our house, due to stupid bank regulations which froze our REAL money for 5 days before we could use it! And the fact that the costs were higher than we'd been told, so there was a little balance left... "
