  • Roomba for Mom

"Sure is nice to see my tax dollars bailing out people who refuse to live within their means, or speculating on houses or buying gigantic cars, then getting mad because the government didn't send them a big enough stimulus check. And with obesity in the US, doesn't look like anyone is starving. So, I bought my mom a Roomba for Mother's Day, you know, with my debit card and money I actually own, and put the rest in certificates of deposit. "

"I doanted most of the money to friends, who had been very hard hit by unemployment for a year, having to move for work and not being able to sell their house, support their toddler, and STILL paying off graduate degrees. Here's their dog..."

  • Investing in our world

"I don't feel that the stimulus checks were a responsible solution to our country's challenges or our world's problems. I donated my entire check, splitting the $600 between Books for Africa, whose goal is to "end the book famine in Africa;" Youth Frontiers, an organization that is changing the way young people treat each other in schools; and a subsistence farmer in Burkina Faso with whom I became friends while in the Peace Corps."

  • I Gave It To A Church Who Cares

"My church helped me through cancer and multiple years of unemployment twice. A survival shower, Thanksgiving and Christmas baskets, seminary tuition money, and a fundraising dinner are only some of the ways they have helped me. I gave my entire stimulus check to my loving church family. Way to go, Trinity."

  • When the economy is down, charities are hit the hardest

"Well, first it went to pay down my credit card balance, which I intend to keep down, but I also set up small monthly donations to the following charities and campaigns so it will add up to $600 over the next 6 to 12 months. I opted to stay local (Austin, TX), so

$10 a month to the Capital Area Food Bank

$10 a month to Mobile Loaves and Fishes HOW program for the homeless

$10 a month to Capital Area Planned Parenthood

$10 a month to Capital Area Mental Health Center

$20 for the next 6 months to Texas' next senator - RICK NORIEGA!"

  • The Selling of America

"My stimulus check is in the envelope that my grandchild is holding. Our foolish government borrowed this money, and billions more, from Communist China. Our children and grandchildren will be paying it back. Just thought that I would help her to make her first payment. Enjoy your trinkets and baubles. They come at a high cost to future generations."

  • Help the poor, the hungry & the sick!

"Donated every dollar! Rebate checks are poor management of our federal funds. If the gov't can't get it right - I'll do it myself. I donated $100 each to: Houston Food Bank, National Law Center on Homelessness & Poverty and American Cancer Society. "

  • Dontatations to Help the Country

"I'm appalled that Bush would increase the national debt by sending people money so they could go shop. I'm donating most of my check to the Obama campaign to help the Democrats win the election and change the tenor and direction of our country. The rest of my check will go to a local food bank to help people who REALLY need help."

  • The children are our future

"After seeing an article in the paper, I took half my check in cash over to my neighborhood grammer school and handed it over. If only the parents at each school did that, none of the schools would be hurting from the budget cuts in California. What if those of us who arent parents did that too? Besides, it was fun to see the look on the administrators face when she saw the envelope was full of cash!!! There is lots of doom and gloom in the news. What a treat to be good news for someone who needs it."

"So far $100 to Nature Conservancy and $100 to People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals. Remainder will go 4 conservation charities. Since Bush is contemptuous of environmental & ethical issues, this is my small way of using govt $ to serve these issues in spite of him."

  • A Birthday Stimulus

"I bought a plane ticket to Chicago off of priceline.com for $199 roundtrip, then a train ticket to Springfield for $65 roundtrip from Amtrak (with a AAA discount). I used the rest for a large poster frame and reprints of photos to make a birthday collage for my bf. As a graduate student, I only got $300 for my stimulus."

"After witnessing the second plane hit the towers, all that was asked of me was to go shopping. 7 years later, I was handed check for $600 and told to do the same. I gave my check to those who actually did sacrfice something. www.woundedwarriorproject.org helps meet the needs of wounded veterans. "
