A Cabin in the Mountains?!
"I bought this beautiful quilt from a friend of a friend. I make quilts for others and loved the idea of buying one for myself. It looks beautiful on my guest room bed. It will be the closest thing to a real cabin in the mountains I will ever get! Thanks, Debbie!"

Tax Season In Indiana
"Hey, I live in Indiana, and we just got the final bill for last years property taxes. They went up so high they had to break them up and bill us over two years, we won't get the first tax bill for this year until next winter. My check is going to pay for part of our bill, maybe the feds can do this every year and help pay our Indiana property tax every year!"

Spent it all!!
"I had heard that the best way to stimulate the economy was by buying services. I took my family to Cirque du Soliel (Corteo - was disappointing) and had a couch recovered. SPENT it all!!"

Sweep It Right Out the Door

Bought some necessities...it was NICE!
"My husband, myself, and our 3 kiddos moved into our new house last April after basically being homeless for a little over a year due to my husband being laid off. We love our new house that was totally a gift from God...how many people are able to buy a house a month after getting into a new job that only pays 28k a year for a family of 5 and in a good neighborhood. Anyways, we bought a new front door for better insulation against the weather and it's pretty:) And also put on a new roof over the office...no more leaking! Gave my mom some to ease her debt and that was about it. It was great to get some things done and we felt extremely blessed for the money we did nothing to get. "

Last gift from my Ex-husband
"1/2 the money I spent (my soon-to-be ex husbands 1/2!) on some "divorce gifts" for myself: new gas grill, new dining room set, cordless drill, tent, jewelry. The other 1/2 (my portion) I'm saving, probably to get new brakes on my car next when I get it inspected. Thanks Uncle Sam (& my ex)."

A Bassett for our Basset
"We purchased a new couch when we bought our new home last August. The couch was put on a "no 12 month interest" plan from Bassett Furniture. With our $900, and an unexpected escrow refund check, we have now paid for our basset's Bassett couch. Libby loves it."

Zip Code Stimulus-Spending
"In the process of refinancing/purchasing my home. Had a local real estate broker tell us what to do to improve the house for sale. Hired a local handyman to get the entire list of painting, molding, carpentry work done. In addition, replaced door weather-striping, replaced rain gutters (not a bad idea after 19 years of Oregon showers), installed thresholds on four doors and re-stained faded window-sills throughout the house. Every nickel was spent in the same zip code -- ditto with State/Federal refunds received!"

Victory Garden Mentality
"I spent my check buying materials for a large home garden - including a Mantis tiller, seeds, small greenhouse, books on gardening and seed saving and hoes and rakes. Food is just getting too expensive, especially fresh fruit and veggies. This investment will keep us in food for a many years to come."

Mountain Man - Cut Down In His Prime
"The Mountain Man was rotten, eaten by termites, attacked by woodpeckers, and needed paint job, so we cut him down. We used $320 to give the Mountain Man a proper burial and build a garden over his stump. Since Uncle Sam was so generous, we gave him $560 of his money back (Federal Student Loan payment). Oh, and of course, we spent on our car: $200 brake job, $50 oil job, $370 on gas and there was probably some food in there too. Everybody but the termites and woodpeckers ate well this month!"
