Useless Dirt
"See this 2 acres of VACANT land? Well, thanks to the crash in commercial real estate loans, and the related collapse in big companies that buy or build self-storage facilities in 2007, I spent, and lost, so much money trying to develop a self-storage facility on this hunk of dirt that I didn't get a tax rebate. But I did my part to stimulate the economy. I helped employ soils engineers, architects, 3D modelers, Kinko’s staffers, self-storage acquisition reps, tradeshow techs, a lawyer or two, and some good ol’ boys.
I’m not asking for pity, but I want you to know that I’d MUCH rather have that $1,200 stimulus check. Not everyone who didn’t get a stimulus check is a welfare cheat. I've netted more money and paid more taxes ever year since I was 14, and that was a long, long time ago. "

No Stimulus for You!
"Despite the fact that I work my kiester off trying to make a living in one of the most expensive cities in the world, I did not qualify for a "stimulus" check because I'm apparently "too rich". It's quite stupid reasoning, really: the purpose of these checks is to STIMULATE the economy. I don't begrudge anyone their check, but putting the checks ONLY in the hands of people who are just going to pay for bills and necessities will not achieve that goal. If anything, the checks ought to go to people like me: debt-free ... because we're the ones most likely to use those checks to actually "stimulate" the economy by buying something like an iPod or a piece of furniture."

Lose your mind, lose your stimulus
"4 yrs ago I suffered a total mental breakdown after being battered by my employer for calling the police on an MD who raped some of his patients. My bosses had wanted to handle the whole thing internally-but that would have meant the MD would have gotten off. My actions helped save future patients from being "examined" by this predator. I filed a suit against my employer and was given a very small settlement. The IRS determined that since I only had a mental breakdown as a result of year long battery by my employer, my settlement was considered taxable income. They don't tax "physical injuries", but they do tax "psychological" ones. So they took my stimulus check to pay back taxes. That seems fair--I only lost my mind while helping to bring down a predator. I'll bet he got to keep his stimulus."

"This house costs me 1,300 gallons/year to heat with oil, my stimulus check paid a small dent on my oil balance because of oil costs shooting up to $4/gallon on me!"

"My wife recently moved to the US from Vietnam. We used the stimulus payment on the many fees that are associated with obtaining her legal citizenship. Hardly fun, but legally necessary all the same. "

They get you coming or going
"Well, we recently moved to Oregon but my husband works remotely for another state. So we were able to pay PART of our Oregon income tax, they take a huge amount out of your check every month and it sucks. "They" get you coming and going. "

"$450 into savings for a new apartment, the rest to pay off new night tables. Still doesn't help the $30000 some odd debt that we have. Sigh. I hear it's nice in Europe..."

Government Takes Not Gives
"Well I didn't actually get to buy anything. Social Services took my refund because they said I owed them money. Why? Because apparently when I was 17 I came into some stock and they failed to notice it until last year. Hell I didn't even know I had it there. Now they are taking my taxes and whatever else because they said I lied. If I knew I had money there, then I wouldn't have had to apply for federal help to help support me and my children. I think its messed up that they knew about my stock and waited until last year to come after me. I am going to fight this!"

No Stimulus For Us
" I was going to spend my check on a lift for my van to carry my power chair so I could finally be independent, or a special mattress for my spinal stenosis, or to pay off $800.00 of car repair then I woke up and realized I probably wouldnt even recieve it. We have not recieved any refund checks, child credits ect, since 1981, my husband owes about $7,000.00 in back child support for our 2 children aged 32 and 34, He started owing that much in1981 and we still owe the same! The interest is killing us!! We also owe Taxes when I.R.S. does an audit and makes their own changes and disregards what you say youll owe the state forever! After 10 years thank God one will be forgiven.P.S theyll garnish your wages collect all refunds and I'm possitive this stimulus check that should belong to our children will be taken to. I would have preferred help in finding out where thousands of dollars of our refunds went. The Child Support agency shows little money yet thousands are missing. If by a miracle it does come I have a wonderful gentleman that is tryng to help us and he needs to get paid! I know this site is for what you spent it on, But I want to shed some light on what is really happening to so many people food, gas, bills, are so desperatly needed but for those of us who battle with these issues daily, thats where it will go."

Mine was stolen
"Well, I had worked out a deal to pay off some back taxes, at a rate of 100 bux a month. The IRS took the liberty of taking both my federal tax refund, and stimulus checks. So much for arrangements!!!! So, what did I buy? Probably a six hundred dollar toilet seat for KBR."

No Credit For Bush
"I might spend my check after Bush leaves office, my house and cars are paid for, and I have no bills. I'm not particularly interested in providing Mr. Bush with any credit at all. After all, his lavish spending habits are the cause of this situation.
But, then again it depends who the next president is, if it's a Republican, my checks are destined for permanent 'savings'"

Burdened with taxation in Minnesota!
"I currently live in Minnesota. Taxes here are very high. Instead of the state and local governments lowering taxes as incentive for new business & more people, they beat you up with more & more taxes. I received $1200 and it all went to pay property taxes and estimated state income taxes. It is a shame! No incentive here!"

Sour Grapes
"As one of the wretched masses yearning to be oppressed, I did NOT qualify for this one time handout. Uncle Sam has wisely chosen to preclude those of my cohort from getting a single penny. Lord knows the folly of giving money to those who need it most !It does make one wonder, is even a cent going to the Katrina victims ?"

The Buffer
"I lost hours at work and used the stimulus as a buffer. Kind of a drag considering I had already purchased a used bicycle for $200 with the idea that the stimulus would pay for it. Oh well, with any luck the bicycle will pay for itself. I blame corporate america. Enough is enough. This has gone on too long. I want my hours back. "
