  • Sent overseas through Kiva.org

"Since our own government can't seem to help Americans figure out how to invest properly in the future, I figured I'd send my stimulus off to folks who are trying to invest in something real.

I did feel a twinge of guilt about sending the money overseas. But that passed quickly. "

"Spent ours on a Bulldog Puppy as a breeding investment(AKC papers and all). So we should see our stimulus, plus some, again in about a year and a half. Now we just pray she isn't sterile."

  • Recession? Hmmm

"We took our stimulus check and paid our security deposit and first months rent. The economy has gone to doodoo, my husband got a paycut and we were forced to file bankruptcy, surrending the house. That's a big F.U., GDubya."

  • Once Upon A Time...

"Once upon a time a sort of prince received a check for $600 from the Department of the Treasury. The sort of prince used the power of the check to attack the evil rectangular monster Kredditkarde which was the terrorizing the rather empty land of Walletonia. Walletonia and the sort of prince lived happily ever after...for a month or two."

  • Paying for our poor currency

"My family spent a week in Barcelona for my parents' 40th anniversary. My stimulus payment covered the change in costs in the vacation since the dollar is TANKING against the Euro since we started planning. In Oct. 07, one Euro cost $1.43. Now it costs $1.56. It's about a 10% increase in the cost of the vacation to celebrate years of happy marriage and help my folks understand the rest of the world doesn't hate Americans (they had never been to Europe before.) Thank you president Bush, your crummy war, and your crappy economic policy. "

  • hasta la vista, credit card debt.

"I had thought about organizing a campaign that would encourage others to pool their stimulus checks in a legal fund to try Bush, Cheney, et al for war crimes. Instead, I took the much more selfish route and paid off the remaining balance on my credit card. I then cut the little bastard to pieces. "

  • Fancy New Lens

"I bought a new lens for my camera, my first really nice lens. It's a Canon 200mm f/2.8L. I bought it ostensibly for an upcoming trip to the Galapagos islands, and I suppose I would have got it with or without the $600 check, but having that money certainly made the decision easier and eliminated an chance of buyer's remorse or going with a cheaper alternative.
