  • Groceries, investment, and strippers

"I spent my $600 rebate on store gift cards at Albertsons. They matched it with a 10% bonus, so I got $660 to put towards my grocery bills. Since that was money I was going to spend anyway, I also transferred $150 to my IRA, $150 to my Roth IRA, $150 to Prosper.com, and went to a strip club with the last $150. I still lost less money at the club that night than I did on the stock market that day (and 'Taylor' at least gave me good value for my money)."

  • 529 plan - College Savings

"My husband and I put the $300 designated for each of our two dependents in thier 529 plan. My half of 'our' money ($600) went to pay down credit card/home equity debt from a basement remodel project and to buy groceries and such basic stuff as new jeans, tennis shoes, socks and underwear."

  • Staying Warm This Winter

"My boyfriend and I have spent our checks on the purchase of a pellet stove and pellets because we need to keep our little monster warm this winter. Last year it cost us about $300 a month to heat the house and we were still cold. We figured we would use the "welfare checks" from the United States government to maybe be warm this year AND be able to eat too. Using oil is going to leave people with 2 choices this year...be warm or eat...and we want to do both. Yeah the financial hit this year will be a big one but we can tough it out and hopefully breathe a little easier next winter. Anyway with the pellet stove it's a great selling point when we move or we can take it with us!!!!"

  • MY FIRST BICYCLE and an cheap ride to the beach

"Well, lucky for my parents claim me so they got the bonus. I'm not complaining though they bought the parts i needed to fix my dirtbike ($40), a dogpack ($30)and my first bicycle($175). Yes, my first bicycle. My dog loves the bike rides down to the beach (I make her carry everything in her new dogpack) and I'm loving the excersize, not paying for gas and helping out the environment. I still need some lights and a basket for the bicycle. I take donations..."

  • The Stars Aligned

"I bought a pair of turntables! It's something I've always wanted but could never justify spending the money on, but the stars really aligned for this purchase. I found out a friend of a friend was selling his and I got them for only $250! I spent the other $50 on various nefarious activities."
