• I Got Ripped

"HI, My name is Michael E. Ries. I live in Rantoul, Illinois. Since I am default on my student loan I don't get a stimulus check. The govt. claims that they applied the money to my loan. The govt. has been taking both my and my wife's income tax returns for almost ten years and so far I still owe TWENTY THOUSAND DOLLARS on a TWELVE THOUSAND DOLLAR loan. The balance never goes down but they take the money year after year. YAHOO I owe less now... I THINK... MAYBE..."

  • Its called interest, learn about it. You can get yourself into deep problems if you only pay minimums on loans...

  • Why did you get a Student Loan for when you don't apply it to a job. Wasteing mine and other hard working people tax dollars for no reason.

  • Hey Rick before you start ripping on other people....learn to spell (i.e. wasting instead of wasteing) makes your statement a bit more credible! (not much though)

  • Uhhh...maybe you should pay your obligations!

  • Maybe schools shouldn't be allowed to charge ungodly amounts for what other countries manage to give their citizens for free. Student loans are the only way to go to college unless your mommy and daddy are rich. They are predatory and charge insane compounding interest. If they were regulated, or education wasn't priced to keep the poor out Rick here and the millions others like him wouldn't be in this situation. Before you go running your mouth try getting an education and realizing what goes into it, and what the sacrifices are.

  • Students loans actually have pretty low interest, until you default. Then it gets expensive and fees add up, just like any other type of loan. My student loan is under 3%, probably b/c I understand how borrowing money works and I pay my bills. There are also things called scholarships and grants taht help people that don't have rich parents, J.

  • Look into some debt counseling. Or contact the lenders themselves ... although since it sounds like you've been in default for a DECADE they might not work with you. But student lenders are some of the easiest to work with in the financial biz. Oh, and "med student" is a dumb twat. Do you know what those "other countries" charge in taxes, so that they can provide this service to their citizens? I thought not. Student lenders charge exceptionally reasonable rates, compared with just about any other kind of credit on the market. The "insane compounding" comes in when people don't pay back money that they promised they would. I had student loans; I paid them back. When I was out of work and couldn't make payments, I contacted the lenders and worked out other arrangements. It's not rocket science. You borrow money. You pay it back. If not, they charge more money. And then you cry like a bitch about how it's not fair. Grow up.
