  • Please accept my condolences. It's always hard to lose a loved one, and the financial headaches come at a really terrible time.

    Did you remember to file taxes for your mother? That will keep the IRS happy, and should also result in a stimulus check for her estate.

  • I was sorry to hear of your loss. When I lost my mom, I had to file two income tax forms: one for the part of the year she lived (her investments) and one at the end of the year (in case any other income was received. Don't forget to re-key the house, if she had one, and work closely with your lawyer. And don't forget to close her credit cards. It took me four months and I finally retired from work to handle the "paper chase". Though this was not the only reason.
    Again my condolences.
