• My stimulus check must have bounced

    "I couldn't buy anything. The government decided that a 21 year-old working college student, who will graduate with over $20,000 in "subsidized" debt raking in an interest rate of nearly 5% over the fed rate, doesn't deserve any money because I "can" be claimed as a dependent. Thank you, United States, for continuing to screw up the futures of thousands of young people."

  • I suppose that's a part of the education. LIfe isn't fair and many of us have/had student loans.

  • The point is not about the student debt, but how a working student doesn't qualify for the stimulus, and that the subsidized loans are locked in above where they should be.

  • Maybe you should have emancipated yourself so you'd get Pell grants!

    I doubt that $600 would have completely turned life around for you.

  • Yeah. What's up with that? My working, college-student son got nothing because he's counted as a dependent on our tax return...but, heh, I got nothing for him either, because he's not a "child." He earned money...why doesn't he get to help stimulate the economy along with everybody else? I'm sure he could help keep some textbook publishers in business.

  • You know I agree with you! I'm 27 years old and just because I came into some stock a year ago that had been there since I was 17 and I didn't know about it, Social Services took my stimulus check thanks to the IRS too. I used my stock to pay up my college debt and help support me and my 2 girls. If I had known about that money was I was a teenager I WOULD HAVE NOT HAD THE GOVERNMENT HELP ME WITH FOOD STAMPS AND MEDICAD. The Government is screwed up. When I called them and explained my situation, they said were sorry, we can't help you. RIGHT CAN'T HELP ME. They won't relieve my debt to social services and now I can't get any help with food or anything for me or my kids. I bust my ass, work 2 part time jobs, and then they can dock my pay? For what? To give to all the illegal immigrants that don't pay a damn tax and support them. YOU JUST WAIT, I will have a new law passed and So help ME GOD if me and my kids starve to death, my ghost will haunt every crooked government official in the United States. This country isn't UNITED....this country is falling apart thanks to the money sucking asshole bigwig government officials!
