• Screwed by The Man... Again

"According to 'The Man' I make too much money to qualify for a stimulus check. I'm 'single' even though I have a healthy child support payment that goes out every month. I'm 'rich' even though I live in Marin where rent and daily living expenses pretty much negate my six figure salary. I know, I know, you're saying "Boo hoo. Cry me a river, pal." I'm right there with you. I just don't think the national average applies to expensive places like the SF Bay Area or New York. Stimulus checks here aren't going to go very far or do diddly squat (BTW, on the map, dark red is the most expensive in regards to cost of living)."

  • Looks like a move to Florida should be considered...

  • yup - we can barely afford our rent controlled apt in San Francisco but we too are too "rich" to get a rebate. When we pay our taxes we get to deduct our expenses - which consist almost 100% of state taxes - so of course CA disallows any deductions. We'd be better off getting "standard" deduction. It sucks.

  • Amen to that, man. Manhattan here. Six figures too. These people have no idea. I'm single and have a decent lifestyle, but no way am I "rich". I work my a$$ off, and I pay more in taxes than most of the people on this site actually earn in a year. If anything, WE should be getting the "stimulus" checks, because we're in a better position to actually "stimulate" the economy with them. I'm not begrudging anyone their check, but let's call a spade a spade here. This was a political move by Bush. It had nothing to do with "stimulating" the economy. Have you noticed how many people are using their checks to pay for ... GAS? Hmm. Nice little gift for Bush's oil buddies!
