A roof to shade us from the sun.
"Every penny of our stimulus check (and then some,) is going towards the property tax we owe on our house. One could presume that our vampire-family costume theme in the photo is symbolic of how our taxes are bleeding us dry, but they'd be wrong. It's a photo that was taken this past Halloween. Hooray for much-needed cash to keep our home, well, -ours-!"

Um...you may want to rethink you budget. If you're dependent on a free handout to pay rent, you've got bigger issues coming your way.

Typically, we wouldn't be "dependent on a free handout to pay rent," - and it's not our rent that needs paying, we're homeowners who needed help this year to pay our property taxes. Our ancient clay sewer pipe collapsed, leaving us with no plumbing, and raw sewage flooding into our basement. After the plumbers came, dug a 25-foot-long, 6-foot-deep trench, and replaced the pipe, we were left with a nearly $4,000 bill that we had to pay right then and there. Needless to say, that's what we -were- going to use for our property taxes, and then some.
Food costs are rising, gas costs are rising, but wages aren't. That's eating into -everyone's- savings, not just ours. And then, when something catastrophic like a sewer pipe collapse happens, that can wipe out a savings account, even one with a buffer, like we'd saved. We'd had enough for the property tax and more, but with the plumbing issue, we wound up needing our stimulus check for our taxes. So, yeah. Don't be a jerk. Think before you judge.

Re: property tax, mine is so high that even at $80,000 a year income and NO mortgage, I cant afford to live in a house. BUT! - The good news is, that Mexicans have no problem living 3 or 4 families to a house, so - we are all renting our houses to three or four Mexican families to pay the tax and make a slight profit, and quitting work and moving out to the woods to a trailer.

Kim, Sorry to disappoint you. You never own your home. You may pay off the Bank. But you will never pay off the County, Parish of the State you live in. Miss multiple payments on your taxes. Goodbye home. It is one more way for the Government to take what is not theirs.
