• How is paying off Uncle Sam stimulating our economy??!!!

"I DIDN'T BUY ZIP, ZILCH, ZERO--NOT A DAMN THING!! All I bought was part of the f-ing IRS. First I received my letter stating my stimulus in the amount of $563.00 would be mailed on 7/11/08. Boy was I excited finally, after waiting nearly 3 frigin months. On 7/13/08 I receive what I thought would be a check but instead I receive a letter explaining my payment was kept and applied to my 2001 tax return from a balance. How is paying off Uncle Sam stimulating our economy??!!! Not to mention the bureaucratic waste with the correspondence... "

  • Yes, Its the governments fault you can't pay your taxes from 7 years ago.

Your 48 years old and are excited over 600 dollars? Oh boy, that is scary in itself. You will be bagging groceries for a long time.

  • You're being too mean, Joe.

If 600 represented your two week salary, you'd be excited too.

  • Four simple words.... PAY YOUR TAXES OWED

  • I agree with ewharper - it sounds like you need to learn how to pay your taxes. If you still owed money from 2001, I bet you've got bigger problems with the IRS than you missing stimulus check. Get your backtaxes ironed out, and you'll save some serious coin on penalty fees.

  • Whether or not I owe taxes is not the issue. The issue is that it's an Economic Stimulus, and not a Government Stimulus. I have a payment schedule to pay my back taxes.

They should have said that I would be paying off my taxes with my stimulus in the correspondence up front. Rather, they tormented me by never hinting that they would take the money for taxes, and led me to believe in all the letters that I would be getting my stimulus until the very last moment when "the check" arrived and it wasn't a check--but yet another letter. The waste of 2 letters stating the wrong information to me is a waste, not to mention the office processing, and the postage.

If they wanted my stimulus check to go for taxes, they should have told us that that would be the case from the very beginning.

To the gentleman who said I was "a bagger", I want to politely clarify that I am a District Manager for a major chain of grocery stores in Southern California.

  • I agree with Jordan. The government wasted time, paper, wages and postage missleading him and many others.

It's better to be straight forward rather than to screw with people.

How is the Government taking their taxes out of an Ecconimic Stimulus check helping the economy?
