  • I wish you many years of love with your new family members.I have a female ferret named Phoebe and I had promised her a friend from the day I got her,she came from a local pet store(I tried to rescue one from a shelter but not many shelters in my area and they had only had a couple in the last few years)after buying her for $150 vet bill for shots,check-up,$800 on a one of a kind ferret kingdom,$100 on food,$200 on toys, accessories and then I was broke,so for five years I kept promising the same thing to her, that she would have a ferret friend(we have Chihuahua's and she is really sweet and they adore her,but when her favorite died on Christmas day I stepped-up the search for her friend). My kids and I went into the pet store to buy food and saw a huge area with baby ferret's one of them was way smaller than the rest and seemed weak but when you went to pick him up he would attack and start biting(we have very cocky Chihuahua's and you have to be tough to play in the little dog yard with them),my daughter picked him up anyway and said mama nobody is gonna want him because he bites(that's what made me decide on my first ferret as well, because she attacked and wouldn't let go so I knew she would fit in well in our chaotic at times household),another $150 for the new friend of Phoebe and my daighter named him Fred.We kept them appart for the first couple of days after the visit to the vet and on the fourth day when I was letting them play together I noticed he was acting strange,I took him back to the vet and $600 and four weeks later he was feeling better,he had parasites(good thing I didn't bring him home and put them together).Well, almost a year later and my little tiny ferret that almost died doesn't even resemble a ferret anymore,he looks like a oppossum and he has made a great transition and the two of them adore each other.P.S. my female,Phoebe stopped biting the day we came home and the male,Fred stopped biting as soon as he started feeling better, the vet thinks it was either because they had to fight the other ferrets in the enclosure at the pet store or that they were being tormented by customers/workers at the pet store. I am glad you are enjoying the new additions to your family and my comment is just meant to give a little insite into sharing your life with your new friends. One last things, when you start cutting their nails you will need a little bit of help one person to cut their nails and and one to hold them by the scruff of their neck like a mama kitty does but be sure to place a hand under their body to rest their weight and you will have complete control of them,I suggest you take a short break in between paws, holding them in this way resembles the way their mother would carry them and they know to go limp,no matter how old or overweight this is a natural instinct.

  • Start ferret proofing your house for her safety. I miss my ferret, Mystie. She lived to be 9 years old.
