Saving for a cold winters day
"Our property taxes are going up if you can believe that in this economy so we decided to put it into a savings account drawing a whopping half a percent interest. Now if we can pull another couple of grand out of the air our taxes will be paid in December for one more year. The money was spent before we ever got it. I hate taxes!!!"

David, I too sympathize with you! I used to live in Texas when I worked. I moved to Minnesota of all places. Minnesota is NOT business friendly or people friendly either. They just want to tax you to death here! All of my $1200 rebate went to pay half of my property taxes and one quarter of my estimated state income taxes for this year. It is a shame, get it back from the feds & give it all to the local & state govts. They tax my pension & social security & anything else they can get there hands on too. I know property taxes are high in Texas, but look out for all the other states with "income taxes"!

What an incredibly beautiful photograph!
Wish I knew where that was.

Give the ING Orange Savings account a try. They pay you 3% interest and you can take it out at any time. I got $300 last year for nothing, not too shabby.

Wamu also has a savings with 3%. You just have to open a checking account with them to get the savings. But there are no monthly fees or min. balances.
