Took away some pain, what will take away the rest?
"I will receive my check in a week but I already spent it on my toothache turned root canal. Because of No Child Left Behind my career as a Social Studies teacher is almost obsolete (I guess nobody cares about learning history) so I cannot find a job and get dental insurance. Root canal = $640 and crown = $1000. Goodbye $600. Let's do this again so I can go back to school since I have to give up my dream profession."

NCLB is stupid.
One of my favorite classes in high school was AP US History. I loved that it was more of "what really happened" (both good and bad) instead of the uber-patriotic (America is the bestest EVAR!!!1!) claptrap we all learn in elementary school. We are pretty great, but far from perfect.
I love the pouty look you have... very funny.
I hope your tooth feels better now.

Thanks, tooth is alot better. I get to go back Friday and get fitted for the crown. My stimulas check was only $300, I got it two days ago. Ouch! But I guess I didn't make enough substitute teaching last year. I LOVE history also. I guess that is why I went for four years for the degree and 1.5 years for the cert. Just wish I could find somewhere to teach it. Ah well, doors are opening, doors are closing. One day I can look back and try to figure out why it worked out this way. Thanks for the comments. Later!

I LOVE HISTORY, especially when its NOT conditioned to say something along the terms of "THE US IS PERFECT" Loved APUSH.
I hope you can find a job teaching (or if you want to do something else, I wish you luck there as well)

Hopefully this time you pick a major that's not completely worthless (meaning, NOT English/Sociology/History/Writing/Philosophy).

I feel your pain (not literally)!
I've been teaching history for 8 years. The past 2 years have been as a teacher for almost 300 kids yearly since they cut history in half.
No one needs to learn about the Constitution or Bill or Rights anymore, right? Toooooooootally useless.

I appreciate the comments. I've just expanded my horizons and have met with teacher recruiters in Arizona and Texas and have applied in Iowa, Wisconsin, and Florida. We'll see what turns out. The tooth is great. Oh, by the way, John Wayne never rides off into the sunset as the hero at the end of the textbook in my classes. lol
